Another thing i have experienced since i first started meditation is the fact that i went from being stressed out about 95% of the time to being stressed out 0.1% of the time.
Meditation makes me pretty much immune to stressful situations. It makes me realize that life goes on whether or not i stress or not.. and stress only makes things much worse! I used to stress over school,money,friends, ect..
The only thing that happened was that i failed all my tests due to stress, spent all my money to buy pointless things that supposedly kill stress, and wasted a lot of time with friends that weren't there for me when i needed them anyway!
As meditation calmed my nerves, i began to see things much more clearly and wondered why i was so stupid before meditation.I see now that if i go into a test calmly, i have a higher chance of passing. Meditation is free stress relief so i don't need to bother buying things. Friends come and go like the wind, so i don't get too attached or waste time.
I even noticed my ability to stay calm in stressful life-threatening situations. For example: My neighbor who can't speak English very well called me and said he needed help because he just cut his hand pretty badly. I walk into his house and see blood all over the place, i see him almost fainting from the pain and blood loss, and his inability to speak English was stopping him from communicating with the 911 emergency operator properly.
If i didn't meditate, i would of walked in there and either fainted or my hands/voice would be too shaky to help and communicate properly in order to help him. Instead, i ran in there and grabbed the phone, talked to the operator in a relaxed manner, and wrapped my neighbors hand with a bandage while keeping pressure on the wound. Basically, my calmness in that situation saved that man's life!
As you can see, meditation can have practical benefits on daily events... but also on events which usually cause massive amounts of stress or even panic! This ability to deal with stress actually makes me smile when i see people that act exactly like i did in the past, before my meditation practice.This is another reason i recommend meditation to anyone who has excessive stress or has to deal with massive stress daily ( A Police Officer or Hospital Emergency nurse/doctor.)
